My go-to look is black and white. It’s flattering, effortless, and classic. I decided to dress it up by swapping out a pair of skinny jeans for a dressy black pant and going with a patent leather boot. I generally don’t wear long dresses, though I found this basic and comfortable one at H&M last week. I decided to break it up and add some extra warmth by layering a heavy wool sweater over it. Here are a few looks from the Marc by Marc Jacobs SS ’14 Collection. I’m generally not drawn to high luster fabrics, though these add just the right amount of attention and playfulness to each look. When going through my closet I came across this zebra print scarf…blanket! This is the perfect accessory for jazzing up a basic look, ideal for travel, and pretty much goes with anything. Since the weather has been changing so frequently, this will be added back into the cold-weather accessories I wear over and over.

For travel, I opt for comfort and a monochromatic palette. I like to layer and have a scarf at the ready. It keeps me cozy during the flight since it always seems chilly, no matter the season. As I mentioned here, I like to travel light and efficiently. For a weekend trip I pack a carry-on suitcase and large bag to tote around my toiletries, book, purse, and iPad mini. I’ve never been too excited about wearing hats. When I was little, I remember avoiding it as much as possible when it was time to go outside in the cold. However, now it’s one of my must-have winter accessories. Mostly out of function, rather than fashion. Since Chicago has some pretty frigid temperatures, lake-effect snow, and bitter winds during the winter; I can’t leave my house without one these days. I always like neutrals and classic pieces for winter accessories – just like this ribbed hat with a fox fur pom-pom.
